A US woman has left judges on America’s Next Top Model stunned after showing off her shockingly skinny waist.
Wannabe model Ann’s frame has also caught the attention of entertainment bloggers, who say the 187cm-tall woman should not be allowed on the show.
In a new advertisement promoting the latest season of the reality show, Ann is seen during her audition telling judges she has the world’s smallest waist.
Host Tyra Banks, who is renowned for her pro-curves attitude, tells the panel of judges: “There’s something about her I like.”
But judge Mr. Jay appears shocked throughout the audition and even puts his hands around Ann’s waist and touches his fingers.
The advertisement has already caused waves in the US media with popular blog TheFrisky dubbing the season “America’s Next Top Circus Freak”.
“I am going to give Ann, the six-foot two-inch model with the Barbie doll-sized waist, the benefit of the doubt and assume that she has a pituitary disorder rather than an eating one,” blogger Ami Angelowicz wrote.
Women’s website Twirlit said Ann should not have been allowed on the show.
“At some point small becomes too small and — at that point — the person should not be rewarded for their size but encouraged to get help,” the site said.
“Ann is too small and shouldn’t be allowed on the show until she gains at least 15 pounds.”
Others accused the show of using Ann as a publicity stunt — something host Tyra Banks was accused of doing last year when she made contestants wear “blackface” for a photo shoot.
Banks apologised for that stunt but not before it made headlines around the world.
